Water Textures & Effects
I started out this project wanting to make a scene using a realistic water material. My only experience with making water was when I tried to make an ocean animation a couple of years ago.
By far one of the things I like most about this material is making little bits of foam on top of the water using a noise texture. I think it makes it look much murkier. I also added some leaves on top.
Next I wanted to experiment with caustics that reflect on walls in indoor pools. I found some of those liminal pool renders to use as reference, and settled on making a custom spotlight that projects the desired texture.
Then I tried my hand at rain. I struggled most with the little splashes and wasn't very happy with them. I found a free rain generator, studied it, and blended it with my own particle system. I also added a raindrop material to the car. To make this look better I should have added motion blur and volumetric fog for a more cinematic look.
